THE GRAMMYS ARE RETURNING TO NYC

As long rumored,  the 60th edition of the Grammy Awards will indeed be held in New York. The Recording Academy confirmed that the awards will take place 1/28 at Madison Square Garden.

The telecast will again be broadcast live on both coasts, though starting a half-hour earlier than in previous years. It will run 7:30pm–11pm ET /4:30pm–8pm PT on CBS, which has the telecast booked through 2026.  "While we're best known for Music's Biggest Night, we serve the music community year-round, and a large part of that community is alive and thriving in New York City and on the East Coast," said Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow. "As a native New Yorker and lifelong supporter of the city's vibrant arts scene, I couldn't be more excited to return in 2018 and celebrate 60 years of honoring the best of the best in recorded sound in the world-class venue that is Madison Square Garden."

The Grammys were last held at Madison Square Garden in 2003, and have since been held at Staples Center. The Academy has used buildings around Staples—the Convention Center and L.A. Live venues—for events such as MusiCares Gala and the pre-telecast ceremony. No word yet on where those events might be held.

The Recording Academy worked with creative agency TBWAChiatDay and director Spike Lee to create a promo film, NY Stories, that features New York artists sharing New York musical stories.

The Academy took care to note the show will be presented “in close collaboration with the Mayor's Office of New York City, Madison Square Garden and CBS Corp.”

"It is very exciting that Music's Biggest Night will be hosted by the country's most iconic city from historic Madison Square Garden, and broadcast on America’s most watched network," said Leslie Moonves, Chairman and CEO, CBS Corp. "We greatly appreciate all the efforts of Mayor de BlasioJim Dolan and Neil Portnow to make this moment happen, and help us create an event that promises to be one of the biggest television broadcasts of this or any other year."

In celebration of the GRAMMY® Awards' 60th anniversary, The Recording Academy®, in close collaboration with the Mayor's Office of New York, Madison Square Garden, and CBS Corporation, are pleased to announce that Music's Biggest Night® will take place at New York City's Madison Square Garden on Sunday, January 28, 2018.
