Soolie’s “Grapes”: A Testament to Grit, Sacrifice, and Greatness
In a genre that thrives on authenticity, Soolie’s latest track, Grapes, stands as a defining moment in his music career. Produced by the legendary RobLo, Grapes is more than just a song—it’s a declaration. “This was the most pressure I ever felt writing a record,” Soolie admits. “Working with a platinum producer like RobLo from the Bay was the biggest highlight of my music career thus far. It’s truly an honor.”
For Soolie, Grapes isn’t just a song; it’s a statement of intent. “I wanted to make a statement like I’m one of the best,” he shares. “I pictured myself in front of millions of fans who just got love for me for being me, and I spoke to them on that record.” With no hook or chorus, Grapes is a raw, unfiltered moment—a lyrical showcase inspired by iconic platforms like Rap Radar and Hot 97.
A Reflection of Sacrifice and Resilience
For Soolie, Grapes represents the culmination of sacrifices he’s made to pursue his dreams. “I sacrificed everything—from my home to being close to my son every day—to come to Cali and pursue my dreams,” he explains. Traveling from Cleveland, Ohio, to the heart of gangster culture and entertainment in California, Soolie took a leap of faith with little more than a wing and a prayer. “Grapes is what came of it,” he says proudly.
The track is his personal toast to perseverance, symbolized by the fine champagne he imagines bearing his name. “It’s my version of a fine champagne, and it’s on the same shelf with all the gold bottles and designer beverages,” Soolie says with a laugh. “Except it’s a platinum bottle of champagne with ‘Soolie’ branded on it.”
The Creative Process
Crafting Grapes was a pressure cooker of creativity. Soolie recalls renting an Airbnb in the East Bay, where he set the stage for inspiration. “I bought a bottle of wine, put on one of my thrifted blazers, and just listened to the beat,” he says. Writing became an all-or-nothing process. “I book the studio time before I start writing because the pressure makes me less likely to overthink. It’s like sudden death when I’m writing records.”
The result? A one-take recording session that produced Grapes alongside two other tracks, Hail the King and L Thy S. “It was all powerful,” Soolie reflects. “You can feel the type of time I was on when you play them back to back.”
Collaboration with RobLo
RobLo’s involvement in the track is pivotal. As the beatmaker, he pushed Soolie to rise to the occasion. “RobLo picked the beat out for me, and I just tried to live up to the standard he placed in front of me,” Soolie explains. The collaboration came together unexpectedly, with RobLo reaching out to Soolie on social media. “I didn’t even know who he was initially,” Soolie admits. “But to actually engage with the mind behind such great records is mind-blowing. It’s humbling.”
A Visual Narrative
The visuals for Grapes currently feature a mic drop video on YouTube. “It’s like an interrogation,” Soolie says, describing the minimalist setup that included a bottle of wine and some lottery tickets as props. “It wasn’t totally drawn out to be a cinematic masterpiece or anything—it was just about creating content.”
Looking ahead, Soolie hopes to produce an official music video and bring RobLo in for a cameo. “It’s only right,” he says.
Reception and Reflections
The response to Grapes has been overwhelming. “It’s been crazy—extremely humbling,” Soolie shares. The song has caught the attention of industry veterans, from Bay Area legends like San Quinn to Oakland’s Fabby Davis. “All my folks back in Ohio are like, ‘Don’t ever come back to Cleveland; stay out there.’ To them, it’s like I made it big.”
For Soolie, the journey is far from over, but Grapes marks a pivotal moment in his career. “This record is me patting myself on the back for everything I’ve been through,” he says. “I’m living proof that if you trust God’s revelations in your life, you can walk through fire and triumph.”
The Takeaway
Soolie’s Grapes is more than a song—it’s a declaration of resilience, faith, and unyielding ambition. As he continues to grind, this track stands as a testament to his journey and a promise of what’s yet to come. “I fought to be here, and I deserve to be in this conversation,” Soolie says with conviction. “I’m one of the best to do this music thing.”
