Will Evans EP “The Campaign" Out Now

Formerly incarcerated artist, Will Evans, changes his life around while striving to make a name for himself in the music industry. He categorizes himself under the genre of, “Inspirational, Introspective, and Aspirational Reality Rap.” Will Evans’ style varies due to the fact that he creates music through God, and not necessarily from his mind, directly. While his sounds may vary, you will always know it is Will Evans because of his distinct voice. He not only writes his own music, but records and engineers it himself as well. He also toured the Pacific Northwest with hip-hop group, Shoreline Mafia, in February 2020.

Why music? Describe your passion.

When I started doing music I saw it as just a way for me to make it out of the environment I was in. Music then became my therapy. I put pieces of who I truly am in almost every song. I’ve made songs about me being shot four times, my love life, my pain and heartbreaks, my happiest moments, my successes, my failures, my spirituality, my perspectives, etc. I would be lost without my music. It’s saved my life.

Who are the top 3 artists that you currently look up to?

My top 3 artists I’m currently most inspired by, musically, are Kendrick Lamar, Ella Mai, and J Cole. They all create from a genuine place and have hit records that don’t necessarily fit the current climate of artists. Business wise, I look up to 50 Cent, Nipsey Hussle, and Chance the Rapper.

Who is your motivation? Why?

My motivation comes from my son, my family, and my fans. My son is my reason for being the person I am, my family keeps me grounded, and my fans keep me responsible. I know that my fans listen to every word and live their lives to my music. My grandmother once came to a show of mine and saw my impact on the crowd. The next day she told me, “Always remember, when people listen to you, you are responsible for what you say to them.”

What are your goals when it comes to your music career?

My short term goals are to get my foot in the music business door. I want to cultivate a bigger core audience and brand myself as a household name. My long term goals are to create at least one classic album, win a Grammy, offer something unique to music culture that helps it advance, and build a brand that will be here long after me.

In your opinion, what makes you stand out from other artists?

I stand out from all other artists because ego does not dictate any aspect of my career. I don’t fear being seen a certain way, heard a certain way, or not being accepted. I’m unapologetically me. I know who I am, therefore I know who I am not. I don’t care to be perceived as flawless. I’ve made a brand out of being myself and people gravitate to me.

What are you most known for? What got you noticed?

I am most known for my charitable work. That’s what gained me a lot of respect and attention. I’ve given away backpacks, shoes, money, toys, etc., to the less fortunate in my city. I’ve paid off student lunch debts, and have done events such as annual Easter egg hunts. If you asked people about me, they would probably bring up my philanthropic work first, and my music second.

How many albums/EPs have you released to date?

12/7/18- “UNI” EP, 1/28/19- “No Plan B” EP, 5/12/19- a full mixtape called “Hometown Hero,” 9/24/19- a joint EP with a producer named Sean Teej called “God Willing,” and  2/2/20- I released my most popular EP called “READY”.

What are you currently working on?

My new EP is called, “The Campaign.” It is my best project so far, and really captures the sound I think I will settle into as my career progresses. I called it “The Campaign” because the promotion for it will be done in the same fashion as a presidential campaign. I’m going to go touch the people and “shake hands and kiss babies.”
